FAQ /// magicka
9. What does Striga Silvanica mean?
It’s Latin-ish for wild witch of the woods. It honors our ancient, feral lineage
10. Is this a coven? Can I join?
We are a coven, but not in the “sign here and wear a cloak” way. Feralore is our shared altar. You’re welcome in the circle — community events and classes coming soon.
11. What is Materia Magicka?
From the Latin materia (meaning substance, matter, or origin) and magicka (the archaic spelling we prefer) Together, Materia Magicka means “magical substance” - the sacred physicals of the craft.
12. Can you remove a curse or hex?
We don’t fear curses, and yes — we offer protection, cleansing, and uncrossing services. We also empower you to reclaim your sovereignty.
13. What if I don’t know what I need?
That’s actually perfect. Book a channeling session, reach out via our contact form, or visit the shop. Spirit has a way of showing us the way when we’re unsure.
14. Do your services involve religion?
We honor all lineages but follow no single dogma. Our work is spiritual, ancestral, and rooted in personal gnosis, reverence, and rebellion. But no, we are not religious.
15. Do you do house clearings or paranormal investigations?
All the time! We’re seasoned investigators and ritualists. Reach out with the details and we’ll assess how best to support you.
16. Do you hex people?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: We could, but our magick’s more powerful when used to protect, empower, and dismantle oppressive systems. Also, we believe most people hex themselves just fine.
17. Is your witchcraft culturally appropriative?
No. We work hard to honor our own lineages and never steal from closed traditions. Our work is rooted in bloodline magick, ancestral connection, and accountability. We’re committed to constant learning and spiritual integrity.
18. I found something haunted in my grandma’s attic. Help?
We got you. Email us a photo and a description. If it’s calling to be rehomed (and not just stirring up attention), we may take it off your hands…or help you make peace with it.
19. Do you really believe in all this?
Yep! We live it. Every single day. But we don’t ask you to believe anything, only to be curious. The world is stranger, more alive, and more enchanted than we’ve been taught.
20. Why do you spell it magick with a K? The K distinguishes the ancient, sacred art from stage illusions and sleight-of-hand.
The K is a nod to Aleister Crowley, who popularized the spelling to mean “the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will.” We use it to signify real energetic work: the kind that weaves spirit and matter, honors ancestors, and remembers the wild. (Side Note: we find Mr. Crowley incredibly problematic)
21. What if I have other questions about your services? When you book any of our services, you’ll receive another more specific faq handout for that service. We are an educational coven, so we always want to make sure you understand the fundamentals of what we’re offering. You can also email us!
